SCAM ALERT

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Central District of Illinois has received reports of individuals spoofing the main phone number to our office, using the names of government attorneys, or government titles with the office name, in an attempt to defraud individuals.

If you receive a phone call from someone who identifies themselves as calling from the U.S. Attorney’s Office and you are concerned about the legitimacy of the call, please:

• Document the name and details the caller provides.
• Hang up immediately and Call the U.S. Attorney’s Office directly (217-492-4450).
• State that you may have been a target of a spoofing scam and ask to speak with the individual by name to verify whether the call was legitimate.
