During my summer externship at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Idaho, I worked on numerous cases in a variety of subject areas. I received interesting and meaningful assignments from patient and encouraging attorneys. The attorneys took the time to make sure I understood the assignments from an educational perspective, which enhanced my experience. I gained valuable experience in traditional legal research as well as legislative history research. I especially appreciated my legislative history assignment as it provided an opportunity to hone dormant skills acquired in my 1L legal research course. I was also able to attend hearings and meetings with the attorneys. Everyone in the office was extremely friendly and extended invitations to attend hearings and participate in meetings.

The extern legal writing workshop was another highlight of my experience. We attended the workshop each week and I found it both informative and entertaining. I feel as though the tips we received in the workshop have already improved my legal writing! Additionally, the externship program gave us a glimpse into many different aspects of federal law through Brown Bag presentations and facility tours.

My externship at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Idaho was challenging yet fulfilling. I am deeply appreciative I was able to spend my summer improving my legal skills with the expert guidance of the Assistant U.S. Attorneys. I highly recommend this externship to all law students, not just law students from Idaho. I am currently in law school in Florida and I loved spending the summer in Boise!
