Lapwai Man Sentenced For Violating Sex Offender Registration And Notification Act

COEUR D'ALENE - Jacob Russell Jackson, 54, of Lapwai, Idaho, was sentenced yesterday to 21 months in prison followed by a lifetime of supervised release for violating the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced. Jackson pleaded guilty to the charge on May 7, 2014.

According to statements made in court, in 1996 Jackson was convicted and sent to federal prison for two counts of sexually abusing a child. This conviction required Jackson to register as a sex offender. Jackson admitted that between December 2012, and April 2014, he did not register as a sex offender in Idaho.

The case was investigated by U.S. Marshals Service and brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
