Women's History Month 2021
March is Women’s History Month
It is a time set aside to celebrate the brave, bold, and fearless women who have influenced American history, whether in the fields of science, politics, environment, law, the arts, and many more. The theme for the 2021 Women’s History Month is “Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to be Silenced,” which is a continuation of last year’s theme. The theme honors the brave women who fought to win suffrage rights for women, and the women who continue to fight for the voting rights of others. Last year marked the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution granting women the right to vote. The theme was continued to this year because COVID-19 restrictions curtailed many of last year’s celebrations.
The President has issued A Proclamation on Women’s History Month, 2021, noting that “[c]ourageous women marched for and won the right to vote, campaigned against injustice, shattered countless barriers, and expanded the possibilities of American life.” President Biden’s Proclamation asks for us to “honor the accomplished and visionary women who have helped build our country, including those whose contributions have not been adequately recognized and celebrated. And let us pay tribute to the trailblazers from the recent and distant past for daring to envision a future for which no past precedent existed, and for building a Nation of endless possibilities for all of its women and girls.”
