Defendant Sentenced For Possession Of A Firearm By A Convicted Felon

Michael J. Moore, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, announces that John Edward Baker, 42, of Lizella, Georgia was sentenced on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, to serve thirty (30) months imprisonment in a case of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The sentence was handed down by the Honorable Marc T. Treadwell, United States District Court Judge, in Macon, Georgia.
Ms. Baker entered a plea of guilty to the charges on September 4, 2013. In his plea agreement, the defendant admitted that on May 23, 2011, while serving a warrant on another individual who was hiding at Mr. Baker’s residence, the U.S. Marshals Service found a .357 caliber revolver and pictures of Mr. Baker holding the above-mentioned weapon. Mr. Baker had previously been convicted of two felony drug offenses in Superior Court in Putnam County in February and June of 2004.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, U.S. Marshals Service and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Verda M. Colvin.
