Michigan Man Sentenced for Role in Drug Trafficking Organization

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – Jason T. Scruggs, 42, of Clinton, Michigan, was sentenced today to 108 months in prison for the distribution of methamphetamine.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Scruggs, also known as “Rock” and “Roc,” was one of the main conspirators, transporting large quantities of controlled substances from Detroit to Clarksburg, West Virginia. During one of the trips, a traffic stop resulted in the seizure of 443 grams of methamphetamine and more than 50 grams of fentanyl. Scruggs recruited others to assist in the drug trafficking operation. Scruggs has prior convictions that include firearms offenses, domestic violence, retail fraud, assault with a dangerous weapon, and breaking and entering.

Scruggs will serve three years of supervised release following his prison sentence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Christie Utt prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.

The Greater Harrison Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; the Drug Enforcement Administration; and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office investigated.

Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided.
