West Virginia Man Sentenced for Fentanyl Trafficking

ELKINS, WEST VIRGINIA – David Laquan McGowan, 41, of Huntington, West Virginia, was sentenced today to 92 months in federal prison for the possession with intent to distribute more than 40 grams of fentanyl.

According to court documents and statements made in court, an investigation revealed that McGowan, also known as “Drip,” was traveling from Huntington to Elkins to sell fentanyl and methamphetamine in Randolph County. During a traffic stop, a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of fentanyl hidden in the ceiling of McGowan’s car.

McGowan will serve five years of supervised release following his prison sentence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Warner prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.

The Mountain Region Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative investigated.

Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided.
