Event of the Week 

This week, Attorney General William P. Barr and multiple law enforcement partners announced the largest coordinated sweep of elder fraud cases in history. The cases during this sweep involved more than 260 defendants from around the globe who victimized more than two million Americans, most of them elderly. Attorney General William P. Barr met with tech industry leaders from AT&T, Microsoft, Google, and Apple discuss how to dismantle tech-support fraud schemes. The forum discussion focused on the important issue of how industry and government can work better together to use technology, law enforcement, and public awareness to address this problem and end the devastating loss and victimization of elders across the country.

The Department of Justice in Action 

The Department of Justice seeks to protect the safety and health of all citizens. The Department recently settled with ExxonMobil to resolve a federal Clean Air Act claim after a fire at the company's oil refinery which led to the tragic death of two employees, and injured ten others. These sorts of violations can also have additional, devastating long-term consequences on human health and the environment. You can read more about this settlement here

U.S. Department of Justice Servicemembers and Veterans Initiative

The Justice Department is committed to devoting time and resources to protect the rights of servicemembers. On Wednesday, the Department obtained an $80,000 settlement with an auto lender that was illegally repossessing servicemembers' cars in California.
