The 200 citizenship candidates originate from 57 different countries, including: Albania, China, Dominican Republic, Ghana, Japan, Lebanon, Moldova, Nepal, Pakistan and Venezuela. Each year, on Sept. 17, the nation observes Constitution Day and Citizenship Day as part of Constitution Week (Sept. 17 to 23), and USCIS often participates in naturalization ceremonies. Holding this event at the Great Hall of Ellis Island – where 12 million immigrants were processed and began their journey to American citizenship – embodies the strength and spirit of those who have voluntarily chosen to participate in American democracy and dedicated themselves to the country’s future.
“Thank you for choosing America as your home. Thank you for the courage, dedication and work that has brought you here. Thank you for all you will do to help our country live up to its highest ideals. Thank you on behalf of a nation that is fortunate to call you as its citizens. Thank you on behalf of the generations of Americans who will come after you. Thank you.” -Attorney General Merrick B. Garland
