Attorney General Barr and President Donald J. Trump awarded the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor to 14 recipients, two of them posthumously. The Public Safety Medal of Valor is awarded by the President to public safety officers who exhibit courage in saving and protecting others and whose heroic actions go above and beyond the call of duty.
The recipients included Fallen Officer Verdell Smith Sr., Fallen Officer Brent Thompson, Lieutenant Xavier Torres, Sergeant Seth Chapman, Sergeant Terry Smith Jr., Sergeant Thomas Avila III, Sergeant Rocky Wenrick, Corporal Andrew Rodriguez Jr., Senior Officer Carlos Plascencia, Detective Manuel Campos, University Law Enforcement Officer Alan Horujko, Senior Trooper Nicholas Cederberg, Fire Captain Dustin Moore, and Firefighter Paramedic Andrew Freisner.
