The Department of Justice Celebrates Earth Day 2023

Executive Director and President of Washington Parks and People Steve Coleman welcomed and thanked for attending the cleanup.
Sites Manager Behnam Mehrabkhani has worked with Washington Parks and People for 22 years, assisting with landscape revitalization and building restoration and construction.
Volunteers work to clear trash from Marvin Gaye Park.
Other volunteers were tasked with whittling down the invasive plants that had begun to grow in the park.
Volunteers also borrowed rain boots to enable them to clear the river of trash.

On April 21, 2023 Assistant Attorney General Todd Kim of the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division (ENRD) led volunteers in a service event at Marvin Gaye Park in honor of Earth Day. Assistant Attorney General Kim was joined by volunteers from ENRD, the Civil Rights Division, and Washington Parks & People to conduct various projects, including restoring habitat, expanding the greening center, removing trash and debris from the park and stream, and more.
