Good morning. Thank you all for being here to commemorate 22 years since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on our nation.

Let us honor those we have lost with a moment of silence.

Today, we remember the pain and devastation that our nation endured.

We remember those we lost on September 11, 2001, and those who have died of 9/11-related illnesses since then.

We remember the law enforcement and public safety officers who demonstrated enormous courage that day and the following days.

And we hold close in our hearts all those who continue to mourn the loved ones who were taken from them.

I also want to take this opportunity to recognize all those who risked their lives responding to the 9/11 attacks who have continued to serve our country through their work here at the Justice Department.

It is an honor to work alongside those heroes.

As we remember the horrors inflicted on our country 22 years ago and those we have lost, let us also rededicate ourselves to our highest priority: protecting the American people, and doing so in a manner that is consistent with our values and with the rule of law.

We know we must remain vigilant in the face of terrorism.

And we must remain steadfast in our commitment to the principles for which the Justice Department must always stand: upholding the rule of law, keeping our country safe, and protecting civil rights.

As we remember what happened 22 years ago today, let us renew our promise to honor the victims and their families in all of the work that we do.

And let us find continued strength in each other in the work that we do together.
