Federal Government Pro Bono Week

Each year, the Federal Government Pro Bono Program presents Federal Government Pro Bono Week, a week of events and volunteer opportunities to celebrate and promote pro bono work by federal government attorneys and legal staff.
This year's Federal Government Pro Bono Week is October 18-25, 2025 (see schedule below).
2025 Federal Government Pro Bono Week Programs, Trainings & Clinic Opportunities
All listed opportunities offer training, mentoring, and malpractice insurance coverage to volunteers. Remember to obtain the approval required by your agency before participating. The Pro Bono Program provides opportunities for federal employees to learn about and participate in pro bono opportunities. The inclusion of a pro bono opportunity or event does not signify endorsement of any organization.
Saturday, October 18 - Advice & Referral Clinic with the DC Bar Pro Bono Center
Federal government volunteers provide advice and referrals to clients in civil legal matters in the areas of debt collection, consumer law, employment law, family law, health law, housing law, personal injury, and probate.
Saturday, October 18 - Christian Legal Aid of DC, Virtual Brief Advice Clinic
Federal government volunteers can provide advice and referral assist in this virtual legal clinic, with training and mentoring available from Christian Legal Aid of DC (CLADC). Find out more about the clinic.
Monday, October 20 - Pro Bono Rookies: Volunteering for the First Time
Federal attorneys and legal professionals can learn how they can volunteer their legal skills in their community, and hear what is need to know for doing pro bono as a federal volunteer, as well from fellow federal colleagues about how they first started with pro bono service as an outside activity.
Tuesday, October 21 - Mentors to Support You: LSO Resources Available for Pro Bono Volunteers
Before handling a pro bono matter or attending a clinic, federal volunteers may wish to learn more about the resources and support provided. Volunteers are never “alone” when the Pro Bono Program facilitates with a legal services organization (LSO) contact whom volunteers can ask for direction, guidance or support, in addition to training.
Tuesday, October 21 - Legal Counsel for the Elderly (LCE) Wills/Life Planning Clinic
Federal government volunteers may assist low-income elderly clients with drafting simple life planning documents, such as preparing wills, advance directives for healthcare, and powers of attorney.
Wednesday, October 22 - DC Superior Court Open House: Landlord/Tenant Court
Federal Government volunteers can attend this open house of the Landlord and Tenant Branch, one of D.C. Superior Court’s high-volume branches where pro bono representation is needed to help tenants assert their rights and defenses in eviction cases. This is a valuable opportunity to observe court proceedings, meet with judges, and learn how you can help tenants maintain safe and affordable housing. Register here.
Thursday, October 23 - Pro Bono Office Hours Coffee
Federal government attorneys and legal staff can drop by to ask questions with the Pro Bono Program Manager and experienced volunteers will be available virtually so you can find out about volunteer options, approval, and the rules for doing pro bono as an outside activity for federal volunteers.
Thursday, October 23 - Marking Purple Thursday - Volunteer Legal Advocates
Interested volunteers are invited to join Volunteer Legal Advocates for a conversation with The Honorable Laura E. Crane, Associate Judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia to learn about the impact of pro bono emergency legal services for domestic violence survivors in our community and how you can volunteer to support this essential work. Federal government volunteers can assist low-income clients pro bono with housing, consumer, and family matters referred by the DC Bar Pro Bono Center.

Maryland Legal Aid is seeking attorney volunteers to help individuals clear eligible criminal records—removing barriers to jobs, housing, and opportunity. Training is provided. Federal volunteers can make a difference in just a few hours while connecting with colleagues and serving the community.
