Federal Government Pro Bono Week

Each year, the Federal Government Pro Bono Program presents Federal Government Pro Bono Week, a week of events and volunteer opportunities to celebrate and promote pro bono work by federal government attorneys and legal staff.

This year's Federal Government Pro Bono Week will be held October 23-30, 2026 (see schedule below).

2026 Federal Government Pro Bono Week Programs, Trainings, & Clinic Opportunities 

All listed opportunities offer training, mentoring, and malpractice insurance coverage to volunteers. Remember to obtain the approval required by your agency before participating. The Pro Bono Program provides opportunities for federal employees to learn about and participate in pro bono opportunities. The inclusion of a pro bono opportunity or event does not signify endorsement of any organization. Friday, October 23 - Veterans Pro Bono Consortium Brief Advice Clinic - 
In-Person at DC VA Medical Center

Volunteer to assist veterans with legal questions around consumer, employment, housing or family law with the support and training of the Veterans Pro Bono Consortium and meet fellow pro bono volunteers at this in-person clinic.

Saturday, October 24 - Advice & Referral Clinic with the DC Bar Pro Bono Center - In-Person

Federal government volunteers provide advice and referrals to clients in civil legal matters in the areas of debt collection, consumer law, employment law, family law, health law, housing law, personal injury, and probate.

Monday, October 26 - Simulation of a Pro Bono Clinic: Be Fully Equipped & Ready with Volunteer Legal Advocates - Virtual

Join this interactive session to learn what to expect and become prepared to volunteer with the remote Civil Protection Order (CPO) clinic through Volunteer Legal Advocates (VLA). 

Tuesday, October 27 - Non-Profit & Small Business: Flexing Different Legal Muscles Through Organizational Pro Bono - Virtual

Anchored by the Non-Profit and Small Business Legal Assistance Program at the DC Bar Pro Bono Center and federal volunteers, learn how to get involved in doing pro bono for a community non-profit or using your legal skills to help a small business to get up and running.

Tuesday, October 27 - Veterans Pro Bono Consortium Brief Advice Clinic - Virtual

Volunteer to assist veterans with legal questions around consumer, employment, housing or family law with the support and training of the Veterans Pro Bono Consortium and conveniently volunteer at this virtual clinic.

Wednesday, October 28 - Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless, Intake Clinic Live Training - Virtual 

Get trained to participate in the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless (WLCH)’s Intake and Brief Advice Clinic, a one-hour remote clinic on the 3rd Tuesday of the month to help clients access shelter and life-saving services.

Wednesday, October 28 - DC Courts Pro Bono Open House - In-Person

Join a special Pro Bono Open House where you’ll be introduced to the DC Courts and the wide variety of pro bono opportunities available, with a panel discussion of judges and observation of court proceedings. 

Thursday, October 29 - How to Do Pro Bono as a Government Attorney: A Roundtable with the Washington Council of Lawyers - Virtual

Experienced government volunteers share different government pro bono options, approval, and rules for outside activity for federal volunteers.

Thursday, October 29 - Support Seniors with Rising Utility Costs - Virtual

Join Legal Counsel for the Elderly (LCE) to learn how you can leverage your legal expertise to support seniors in DC facing rising utility costs.

Friday, October 30 - Veterans Pro Bono Consortium Brief Advice Clinic - Virtual 

Volunteer to assist veterans with legal questions around consumer, employment, housing, or family law with the support and training of the Veterans Pro Bono Consortium and conveniently volunteer at this virtual clinic.

Friday, October 30 - Pro Bono Office Hours Coffee  - Virtual

Interested federal attorneys and legal staff can drop by to ask questions with the Pro Bono Program Manager and experienced volunteers about appropriate opportunities, approval, and the rules for doing pro bono outside activity.
