About the Branch
For more than 40 years, the Consumer Protection Branch has worked to protect the health, safety, and economic security of the American consumer. The Consumer Protection Branch leads the Justice Department’s efforts to enforce consumer protection statutes throughout the United States.
The Consumer Protection Branch cases are rooted in our nation’s fundamental consumer protection laws, establishing crucial precedents and protecting American consumers from threats to their health, safety, and wallet. Cases commonly handled by the Consumer Protection Branch include:

The Consumer Protection Branch works closely with agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration, the Federal Trade Commission, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and the newly created Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
In addition, the Consumer Protection Branch works with law enforcement agencies such as the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, FDA’s Office of Criminal Investigations, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to investigate and prosecute criminal violations of the law. All of these partnerships enable the Consumer Protection Branch to enhance its enforcement efforts on behalf of the American consumer.
