Exodus Refugee Immigration v. Pence

Overview

On February 11, 2016, the Department filed a statement of interest in Exodus Refugee Immigration v. Pence, 15-cv-1858 (S.D. Ind.). The Department's SOI advised the Court of its view that federal law bars the State of Indiana from discriminating against Syrian refugees in its distribution of Refugee Social Services Program funds.

On May 16, 2016, the Department filed an amicus brief in Exodus Refugee Immigration v. Pence, No. 16-1509 (7th Cir.) in support of the federal government’s interest in ensuring that the refugee program is operated free of discrimination and, more generally, that recipients of federal funds do not engage in prohibited discrimination.
