United States v. Jones (W.D. Mich.)
On March 7, 2023, the court entered the consent decree in United States v. Jones (W.D. Mich.). The complaint, which was filed on June 4, 2020, alleges that Darrell Jones, the owner and manager of rental properties in Muskegon, Michigan, violated the Fair Housing Act by subjecting female tenants to sexual harassment and retaliation. The complaint also names as defendants Fatima Jones and Jones Investing, LLC, co-owners of several of the rental properties where the harassment occurred. The consent decree requires the defendants to retain an independent property manager, obtain Fair Housing Act training, and implement non-discrimination policies and complaint procedures to prevent sexual harassment at their properties in the future. The settlement also requires the defendants to pay $155,000 in damages to the aggrieved persons and a $10,000 civil penalty.
