Ohio Man Sentenced to Prison for Fentanyl Crime

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Deon Dewayne Grundy, 29, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, was sentenced on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, to two years and nine months in prison, to be followed by four years of supervised release, for possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl.
According to court documents and statements made in court, on September 3, 2025, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at a Beckley residence where Grundy was living and seized 86 grams of fentanyl and $1,659. As part of his plea agreement, Grundy admitted that he intended to distribute the seized fentanyl. Grundy further admitted that he sold approximately 5 grams of fentanyl earlier that day to a confidential informant at the Beckley residence in exchange for $300. The cash seized during the search included $40 from the controlled buy.
United States Attorney Moore Capito made the announcement and commended the investigative work of the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit, which consists of officers from the West Virginia State Police, the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, and the Beckley Police Department.
Chief United States District Judge Frank W. Volk imposed the sentence. Assistant United States Attorney Brian D. Parsons prosecuted the case.
