Bangladesh: ICITAP Partners with INDOPACOM to Strengthen Airport Security
On April 6, a team from ICITAP and the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) visited the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) K-9 Unit at the Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. The purpose of the visit was to potentially partner for training on wellness for the teams. A senior APBN official welcomed the wellness training and is anxious to continue the training. Currently, APBN has a total of 13 dogs, (seven Labradors, four Belgian Malinois and two German Shepherds), four of which were trained by ICITAP-funded trainers, and the others are awaiting the return of the trainers to receive training. APBN plans to purchase 10 more dogs for narcotics screening when the COVID-19 situation improves. APBN hopes that ICITAP and INDOPACOM will arrange K-9 kennel and wellness training and will provide guidelines / suggestions if approved.
