Colombia: ICITAP Supports First International Symposium of Criminal Investigations of Gender-Based Violence in Medellin
From December 1 to 2, ICITAP supported the Colombian National Police (CNP) organize the First International Symposium of criminal investigations of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) held in Medellin. The symposium incorporated a conference style panel and working groups from different approaches, profiles and professional roles of investigators, criminal analysts, doctors, experts, psychologists, judges, and prosecutors among others, to encourage debate, facilitate the exchange experiences and good practices, induce alliances, inter-institutional articulation and deepen concepts, methodologies, around the motivation to overcome gaps in criminal investigations of GBV. Keynote speakers included a Supervisory Special Agent and a violent crimes analysis from the FBI Investigative and Operational Support Section, National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime, Behavioral Analysis Unit. The CNP Director General, ICITAP Principal Deputy Director for Global Operations, ICITAP Assistant Director for the Western Hemisphere, and representatives from various Colombian institutions were in attendance. ICITAP works with the support of and in coordination with the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).
