Nepal: ICITAP Assists Nepal Police in Transforming Digital Forensics Laboratory

From September 1 to September 11, ICITAP assisted the Nepal Police Digital Forensics Laboratory in setting up new hardware and software. Fifteen (15) forensic workstations were purchased as part of the program along with two (2) Faraday boxes, two (2) Covert Forensic Imaging Devices or CFIDs and one forensic duplicator. These items are used in the acquisition and analysis of digital devices such as computers, USB devices, servers, mobile devices, and drones. Forensic software was also installed and training on the install was provided for members of the unit. Process optimization utilizing the new equipment and reduction of backlog was also discussed as future milestones for the laboratory. These purchases have completely transformed the laboratory and provided necessary new capabilities to support criminal investigations and prosecutions. Nepal, ICITAP works with the support of and in coordination with the U.S. Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs and the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu.
