Tunisia: ICITAP Strengthens Court Security in Partnership with United Nations
On April 7, ICITAP participated in the 2nd Executive Steering Committee Meeting on Court Security Improvements sponsored by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in Tunis. Through funding and support from the State Department’s Bureau of Counterterrorism (State/CT), UNOPS completes the ICITAP-recommended physical security upgrades to the three judicial facilities designated by the Government of Tunisia (GoT) to handle the return and prosecution of Foreign Terrorist Fighters (FTFs). The steering committee was developed to inform the participating GoT ministries, including the Ministries of Justice and Interior, on the planning and progress of the construction upgrades to be initiated in the near future. The physical upgrades include prisoner cellblock renovations, prisoner sallyport construction, and upgrades to court complex access controls. ICITAP-Tunisia’s Program Analyst and Senior Law Enforcement Advisor participated in the meeting and presented on the path forward for the program implementation. In Tunisia, ICITAP works with the support of and in coordination with the State Department’s Bureau of Counterterrorism.
