Indonesia: ICITAP Partners with the National Police to Counter Radical Messaging

On August 2, ICITAP-Indonesia’s Media Relations Project conducted a curriculum development workshop, followed by small team Counter Messaging Course at Bandung, Central Java.  The curriculum development workshop involved three Indonesia National Police (INP) instructors.  In two days, the instructors developed new curriculum, combining materials from the previously taught Basic and Advanced Counter Messaging Courses, to be delivered to the selected INP Public Relations (PR) small team units.  During the Counter Messaging Course, twelve INP personnel from their Public Relations Division attended. The Head of Multimedia Bureau PR Division officially opened the course. The participants had previously gone through a selection process and were interviewed by ICITAP-Indonesia and the INP PR Division.  The focus of this small team unit is to conduct strategic messaging for INP. Per the INP’s request, ICITAP is the only international donor working with the INP Public Relations Division, and with ICITAP’s assistance, public confidence in the INP has increased significantly over the last five years.
