On July 27, Kosovo’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MoIA) signed a cooperative agreement with EUROPOL, which, per the Minister, “strengthens and advances our capacities in preventing and combating international organized crime, terrorism and other forms of serious crime.” The signing ceremony was attended by the Head of the European Union (EU) Office, who serves as the EU’s Special Representative in Kosovo as well as the Kosovo Police General Director, ICITAP-Kosovo’s Attaché, and members of ICITAP’s team along with other guests from local and international institutions. In his remarks, the Minister of Internal Affairs stated “with the signing of the agreement with EUROPOL, today is a very important day for the Republic of Kosovo and law enforcement agencies, especially the Kosovo Police….” The Minister noted that through this agreement, the Kosovo Police will be treated equally, as well as the police services of the countries in the region, which have signed similar agreements with EUROPOL. At the same time, a Kosovo police liaison officer is expected to be sent to EUROPOL headquarters in The Hague very soon. Following the event, ICITAP-Kosovo’s Attaché met with the Minister of Internal Affairs and the KP General Director and received complimentary remarks about the role that ICITAP has played in this tremendous development.
