On March 6, 2020, in partnership with the State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), ICITAP sponsored a delegation of five female leaders and one male police leader as well as one female prosecutor from North Macedonia (NMK) to participate at the 9th Annual Women in Policing Conference (WIP) in Tbilisi, Georgia. WIP 2020, which is hosted by INL, involved 270 female police officers from Georgia, Albania, Armenia, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and Ukraine. The conference focused on leadership themes and provided participants with the opportunity to hear from experienced police leaders/instructors, share success stories and best practices, and build regional professional networks. The NMK group was very impressed with the “Communications Skills” and “What you do matters” sessions provided by a number of INL’s police advisors and have immediately expressed their interest in welcoming them to North Macedonia. As a result of this event, the participants have requested ICITAP’s support in hosting a leadership event for women in policing that will certainly help female police officers in developing their leadership skills and improve the professional career. In addition, the NMK team were the proud winners of the shooting competition, within their group, in the Judgmental Use of Force exercises. Women in Policing is a key ICITAP objective for 2020.
