Pakistan: ICITAP-Facilitated Youth Camp Brings Police and Community Together

On July 17, the month-long Islamabad Capital Territory Police (ICTP) Youth Summer Camp concluded at Police Lines in Islamabad. There were 627 participants [409 boys (65%) and 218 girls (35%)] who participated in this ICITAP-facilitated and INL-funded program. Modules for the camp included: swimming, horseback riding, gymnastics, martial arts, archery, obstacle course, and a safety & security workshop presented by ICITAP local staff and subject matter experts. The first camp was presented in 2014 with 325 participants, steadily growing to nearly 500 in 2018, and taking a jump to 627 this year plus over 100 applicants wait-listed as the camp could not accommodate any more. The youth camp provided the citizens an opportunity to interact with the police in a positive environment, helping to establish greater trust between law enforcement and the public. This activity was delivered with the support of and in coordination with the Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).
