Serbia: ICITAP Works with the United Nations to Help Counter Domestic Violence

On November 8, ICITAP concluded two consecutive one-day Domestic Violence First Responder Training events for the Bor Police Directorate in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). In these two courses, 60 uniform police officers were trained by a multi-disciplinary team of trainers consisting of police, prosecutors and NGO representatives. Since April 2018, approximately 330 uniform police officers have been trained in this project, and additional 120 will receive this training by the end of November. Serbia’s Minister of Interior (MOI) reported that the MOI has registered a decline in reported domestic violence cases for 7.5%, as well as decrease in femicide for the first time after a series of years, which shows that the new Law on Prevention of Domestic Violence (entered into force on June 1, 2017) has been giving results, as well as the conducted training. Please see attachment for the photos from the training.
