The Department of Justice held an event in honor of the 10th Anniversary of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr., Hate Crimes Prevention Act with keynote remarks from Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband.

Anniversary event speakers also included the Honorable Carlton W. Reeves, United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi, who presided over a hate crime conspiracy case pertaining to events that culminated in the murder of James Craig Anderson, and Will Johnson, Chief, Arlington, Texas Police Department and Vice President At-Large for the International Association of Chiefs of Police.  Other speakers include stakeholder advocates Nadia Aziz, Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law; Cynthia Deitle, Matthew Shepard Foundation; and Michael Lieberman, Anti-Defamation League.
