On December 3, 2024 The Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division held a commemoration celebrating systemic police reform cases under statute 34 U.S. Code § 12601. For 30 years this statute has given the Department of Justice authority to investigate and remedy patterns or practices of police misconduct. Over the last three decades, the division has opened more than 80 formal pattern or practice investigations which have offered a top to bottom look at some of the nation's largest law enforcement agencies.
