U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Virginia Chris Kavanaugh provides remarks about the hate crimes prosecutions resulting from the white supremacist violence at the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017.  Hong Lee, President of Seniors Fight Back, speaks about her experience as the victim of a hate-based assault, her efforts to raise awareness of acts of hate affecting the AAPI community, and her work to provide resources and training to support victims and stop acts of hate.  Finally, Taylor Dumpson, a 2021 President’s Fellow at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, shares her story of being victimized by in-person and online acts of hate, the successful lawsuit she filed to vindicate her rights, and the restorative justice-based settlement she reached with one defendant.
