Law Enforcement - Community Engagement Training
Bethune-Cookman University’s Center for Civic Engagement hosted a one-day workshop for Central Florida law enforcement officers on “Law Enforcement & Community: Getting Beyond the Mistrust.” The course was facilitated by the university’s Department of Criminal Justice Graduate Studies Program and the USAO-MDFL Law Enforcement Coordination Section. Seventeen law enforcement representatives from seven various agencies participated in topical discussions, research analysis and situational scenarios. Some areas included the nobility and history of policing in America, the impact of perception and unconscious bias on relationships, and an exploration of strategies and best practices that achieve public trust among citizens. Attendees included command-level executives, supervisors, investigators, patrol, and community relations officers.
