Meet the Former Acting United States Attorney

William Narus became the Acting U.S. Attorney in February 2025, by virtue of the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.  He had served as the First Assistant U.S. Attorney since 2024 and as the Chief of the Criminal Division since 2022.  

Mr. Narus joined the Justice Department in 2004 through the Attorney General’s Honors Program and was assigned to be an Assistant U.S. Attorney in San Diego.  From 2009 until 2014, he was a Trial Attorney in the Counterterrorism Section of the National Security Division in Washington, D.C.  Mr. Narus was the Resident Legal Advisor for the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya from 2014 until joining the Office in 2017. 

Before joining the Department, Mr. Narus served as a law clerk to U.S. District Judge Robert E. Jones and U.S. Circuit Judge Alfred T. Goodwin, respectively.  He is a graduate of Linfield University and the University of Oregon School of Law.
