Sri Lanka: ICITAP Meets with Police Training College Director to Discuss Instructor Development Training
On April 12, the ICITAP-Sri Lanka Law Enforcement Assistance Attaché met with the Deputy Inspector General (DIG), who is the commander of the Sri Lankan Police Training College in Kalutara. The discussion focused on a request for ICITAP to conduct a series of Instructional Development Courses (IDC’s), to help the training college provide in-service training to the 84,000 officers in the Sri Lankan Police. The DIG offered the use of the training college if needed to host the IDC courses. Further, the DIG requested support to collaborate on curriculum development for community policing courses to address the training of in-service personnel using a modular approach. The DIG explained that currently, the Sri Lankan police were conducting an unprecedented recruitment and training program for almost 5,000 new personnel. The target for this year’s recruitment and training is 10,000 which has taken priority over providing in-service training. In Sri Lanka, ICITAP works with the support of and in coordination with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).
