UPDATE – May 31, 2019: On May 30, Anil Prasad, M.D., a neurologist, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and dispense controlled substances, oxycodone and hydrocodone, outside the scope of professional practice and for no legitimate medical purpose; and conspiracy to commit health care fraud. 

The defendant was charged in an April 2019 bill of information.  The charges stem from the defendant’s pre-signing prescriptions for controlled substances without performing contemporaneous patient examinations. The defendant admitted knowing that certain patients at the clinic used their Medicare and Medicaid benefits to pay for the medically unnecessary prescriptions for controlled substances.  In total, Medicare and Medicaid paid approximately $1.6 million for these medically unnecessary prescriptions for controlled substances.

A sentencing hearing has been set for September 4, 2019, at 9:30 AM.
