Keith D. Edelman

Keith D. Edelman was selected as the Criminal Division’s Acting Chief Counselor in March of 2025. In this role, he serves as the second-in-command to help oversee the strategic and operational management of the Division’s 16 sections and offices. Keith is also a key advisor to the Head of the Criminal Division on priority areas as they relate to the Division’s policy, regulatory, and legislative responsibilities.

Keith previously spent seven years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, where he served as Deputy Chief of the Office’s Organized Crime and Gangs Section as well as its coordinator for both the Witness Security Program and Project Safe Neighborhood. As part of his work investigating corruption at FIFA and other soccer organizations, Keith received the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service. Keith later joined the Criminal Division, where he served as a Senior Counsel in the Office of the Assistant Attorney General as well as the Principal Assistant Chief of the Fraud Section’s FCPA Unit.

Keith clerked for the Honorable Reena Raggi of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the Honorable Nicholas G. Garaufis of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. He is a graduate of Duke University and earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School, where he was a Senior Editor on the Columbia Law Review.
