Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General

David Rody

David Rody began serving in March of 2024 as Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General with responsibility for overseeing the Criminal Division’s Capital Case Section, Human Rights and Special Prosecutions Section, and the Violent Crime and Racketeering Section. Since returning to OAAG in September 2023, Mr. Rody has performed the role of a Deputy Assistant Attorney General, first covering the Fraud and Appellate Sections and, since January 2023, covering the Violent Crime and Racketeering, Capital Case, and Human Rights and Special Prosecutions Sections.

Previously, from 1998-2011, Mr. Rody served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York, where he tried cases on charges ranging from narcotics trafficking and racketeering, to terrorism and capital murder.  From 2006 to 2011, Mr. Rody served as Chief of SDNY’s Violent Crimes Unit, during which he oversaw all phases of prosecution, including supervising more than 40 trials, in cases involving RICO, murder, armed robbery, extortion, obstruction of justice, and firearms offenses.

From 2011-2022, Mr. Rody was a partner at Sidley Austin LLP, where his practice focused on white-collar criminal defense and trials, securities enforcement matters, compliance counseling, and complex civil litigation.

Mr. Rody graduated with honors from the University of Chicago Law School and magna cum laude from Brown University.
