Interview Information

DEA ADMINISTRATIVE LAW JUDGES:  Interviews will be conducted by Video Teleconferencing Capability through WebEx.  Applicants will receive an evite a few days prior to his/her scheduled interview.  Please join the Webex at least 5 minutes prior to the interview.  If you have any questions, call Roxann Eline or DebraLynn Rosario (202) 307-8188. DEA OFFICE OF CHIEF COUNSEL: The Drug Enforcement Administration Office of Chief Counsel will be conducting interviews through WebEx, which is available through the internet, at no cost and with no subscription.  Applicants should be aware they will be required to set up a name and password through the website or will, alternatively, have the option of setting up through the App Store.  It takes about 10 minutes to set up and should be done and tested prior to any interview.  A DEA representative will reach out to the applicant prior to the interview to ensure the flow of the interview and technical abilities. 

Pre-Interview Submissions

ADMINISTRATIVE LAW JUDGES: The Administrative Law Judges request two writing samples and a current résumé. All documents should be sent both electronically and in hard copy (see instructions below).  An official transcript will be required prior to entry on duty.  

  • Submission Deadline: As soon as possible but not later than 10 business days after notification of selection for an interview.
  • Format:  Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat (PDF)
  • Type of Writing Sample: Interview candidates should submit two writing samples. The samples should be original pieces that have not been extensively edited by a third party (e.g., not a product that has been heavily-edited by someone other than the candidate).
  • Submission Method:  

    Submit the writing samples and résumé by e-mail as attachments to: Roxann.E.Eline@usdoj.gov.

    The email subject line should reflect: “Honors Program Submission” and include the candidate’s name.
    For example, documents submitted by “J.Q. Candidate” could read: Honors Program Submission - J.Q. Candidate

DEA OFFICE OF CHIEF COUNSEL: The Office of Chief Counsel requests a current résumé and writing sample.  If applicable, documentation showing admission to the bar is also requested.

  • Submission Deadline: As soon as possible but not later than 7 calendar days after notification of selection for an interview.
  • Format:  Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat (PDF)
  • Type of Writing Sample:  Interview candidates should submit one legal writing sample, not to exceed 10 pages in length. An excerpt from a longer piece is acceptable, in which case a summary should be included. The sample should provide evidence of the candidate’s skills in legal analysis and writing and should represent the candidate’s own work, without extensive editing by anyone else.
  • Submission Method: Submit in one email as three separate attachments (two if bar admission documentation is not available) to holly.burch@dea.gov.  All submissions should include a standard email subject line formatted as: Honors Program – Name of Candidate – Pre-Interview Submissions. All Attachments should be standard as follows:
  • Name of Candidate – Resume
  • Name of Candidate – Writing Sample
  • Name of Candidate – Bar Admission (if applicable)

Special Instructions

The writing samples submitted should contain the candidate’s name at the top, right corner.  Where appropriate, writing samples should contain a brief introductory explanation of the document.
