Our Work
The mission of the National Security Division is to protect the United States from threats to our national security by pursuing justice through the law. The NSD's organizational structure is designed to ensure greater coordination and unity of purpose between prosecutors and law enforcement agencies, on the one hand, and intelligence attorneys and the Intelligence Community, on the other, thus strengthening the effectiveness of the federal government's national security efforts.
Subject Matter Areas, Initiatives, and Sections
The Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) was enacted in 1938. FARA requires certain agents of foreign principals who are engaged in political activities or other activities specified under the statute to make periodic public disclosure of their relationship with the foreign principal, as well as activities, receipts and disbursements in support of those activities.
The Foreign Investment Review Section proactively protects national assets, including sensitive data and communications, by assessing, mitigating, and preventing national-security and law-enforcement risks before they materialize.
Office of Justice for Victims of Overseas Terrorism (DOJ/OVT), a component within the National Security Division (NSD), U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). The DOJ/OVT assists U.S. victims harmed in international terrorist attacks.
