Attorney Student Loan Repayment Program Key Dates

Important: All ASLRP payments are contingent upon availability of funds.  

Key Dates/Actions for Current ASLRP Participants

  • March 1, 2023: Forms and instructions for 2023 renewal requests are posted on the OARM webpage

  • March 31, 2023: Deadline for current ASLRP participants (attorneys selected in 2021 and 2022) to submit renewal requests to component contact

  • May 2023 OARM issues renewal notices; recipients confirm acceptance

  • June/July 2023 Components issue renewal payments

  • October 2023: Recipients should confirm receipt of payment with loan holder

  • NLT early December 2023: Recipients should report erroneous or missing payments and initiate corrective action to ensure payment properly issued before the end of the calendar year

Key Dates/Actions for New Requesters

New requesters include attorneys not previously selected for ASLRP participation, former ASLRP participants whose service obligations expired prior to 2022, and attorneys selected for the ASLRP in 2019 whose service obligations expire in 2022 who wish to re-compete for additional benefits

  • March 1, 2023: Forms and instructions for 2023 are posted on the OARM webpage

  • March 2023 Complete the Request for Consideration and gather financial statements from loan holders.  Be sure to gather documentation for the period January - December 2022, not the 12 months preceding submission of the request.  ASLRP awards are based on the previous calendar year (January through December). If payments were suspended, your documentation must go back as far as necessary to show the information required to establish your repayment plan (amount paid per month/quarter) and personal payments.

  • April 15, 2023: Deadline for new requesters to submit Requests for Consideration to their component contact  

  • July 2023: OARM notifies attorneys selected for participation and their component; recipients confirm acceptance.  Once new recipients are notified, OARM posts a selection update on the main ASLRP website  

  • NLT September 30, 2023: Components issue payments to loan holders on behalf of new selectees

  • October/November 2023: Recipients should confirm receipt of payment with loan holder

  • NLT early December 2023: Recipients should report erroneous or missing payments and initiate corrective action to ensure payment properly issued before the end of the calendar year

Key Dates/Actions for Components and Offices

  • March 31, 2023:  Deadline for current participants to submit renewal requests to component contact for processing

  • April 14, 2023:

    • Component deadline to submit renewal requests from current participants to OARM

    • Deadline for interested attorneys to submit new requests to be submitted to component contact for processing

  • May 1, 2023: Component deadline to submit new Requests for Consideration to OARM

  • June/July 2023:  

    • Components issue approved renewal payments

    • New selectees notified by OARM

    • Components notify applicants not selected for participation

    • Component issue payments for approved new participants

    • Components submit Reimbursement Agreement to OARM (for pro-rata share of total ASLRP cost)

  • NLT September 30, 2023:  Components ensure payments issued for all participants

  • NLT December 30, 2023:  Components ensure any necessary corrective action to issue 2023 ASLRP payments is complete

 

General ASLRP Timeline

March

  • ASLRP information posted on the OARM web page

  • Deadline for current participants to submit renewal requests to component contact

  • Current participants take any necessary corrective action to ensure policy compliance

  • Interested attorneys prepare their submissions and gather supporting documentation (e.g., January - December financial statements from loan holders). If payments were suspended, documentation must go back as far as necessary to establish the individual's repayment plan (amount paid per month/quarter) and personal payments. 

  • Department-wide announcements issued via JCON

April

  • Components process renewal requests and submit to OARM

  • Deadline for interested attorneys to submit “new” requests for consideration to component contact

May - June

  • OARM recertification of current ASLRP participants

  • Department-level review of new requests and selection of new recipients

  • OARM authorizes components to issue approved renewal payment

    • Components start issuing approved renewal payments

  • Final eligibility screening and loan validation for tentative new recipients

July

  • OARM notifies new recipients (and their component contact) and confirms their acceptance

  • OARM posts general selection status update on the ASLRP webpage

  • Components/offices notify attorneys not selected for participation. OARM does not issue individual non-selection notices, but it does post an update on the main ASLRP page once all recipients have been notified.

September 30

  • Component payments to all recipients should be complete (except for new hires who have not yet entered on duty)
