DOJ/COPS Community Engagement Initiatives

USALAE representative serves as a representative for the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of Louisiana for the U.S. Department of Justice, Community Oriented Policing Services and community partners representing the targeted areas.  The purpose of this initiative is to respond to firearm violent crimes and homicides occurring in the St. Roch (5th Police District), New Orleans East (7th District) and Central City (6th District) through a collaborative effort consisting of representative from the City of New Orleans (Criminal Justice Commission and Code Enforcement), New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), the Faubourg St. Roch Improvement Association, The Faubourg St. Roch Project, Edgelake Subdivision Neighborhood Association, The Eastern New Orleans Neighborhood Advisory Commission (ENONAC), The Central City Partnership,  the U.S. Department of Justice and local non-governmental agencies.  Proactive and reactionary strategies will be developed to improve the quality of life, reduce violent crime, and maintain a consistent partnership between the St. Roch community and law enforcement.

Three subcommittees have been established to address the issues of:

  • Blight Abatement
  • Educational and Employment Opportunities for “at risk” youth
  • Municipal Code Compliance for Neighborhood Retail Establishments that decrease the quality of life.
