Honduran Man Sentenced for Illegal Re-entry

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – United States Attorney Duane A. Evans announced that VICTOR MANUEL OSORTO-LOPEZ (“OSORTO”), age 40, was sentenced on January 30, 2025, after previously pleading guilty to illegal reentry of a removed alien, in violation of Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).

According to court documents, OSORTO was removed from the United States on December 4, 2009 and, again on September 3, 2012.  He was later found in the Eastern District of Louisiana on March 14, 2024, and had not received permission from the Attorney General of the United States or the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security to reenter.  He was sentenced by United States District Judge Barry W. Ashe to (6) six months of imprisonment, to be followed by (1) one year of supervised release and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

U.S. Attorney Evans praised the work of the United States Customs and Border Protection in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Jon M. Maestri of the General Crimes Unit is in charge of the prosecution.
