Sex Offender Pleads Guilty To Failure To Register

MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced that Dee Wayne Puryear, age 69, entered a guilty plea to one count of Failure to Register as Sex Offender, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The Indictment alleged that Puryear was convicted of Rape in the Second Degree in the State of Oklahoma on December 19, 2001, and was required to register as a sex offender, and that from April 2017 until June 17, 2026, Puryear failed to register and update his registration despite entering, leaving, or residing in Indian country within the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The charge arose from an investigation by the United States Marshals Service Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force and the Muskogee Police Department.

The Honorable Ronald A. White, Senior Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, accepted the plea and ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report.

A U.S. District Court Judge will determine the sentence to be imposed after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Puryear will remain in the custody of the United States Marshals Service pending sentencing.
