2022 Preventing Targeted School Violence – Enhancing School Safety Training Series
The USAO-MDFL Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee (LECC) Program, in partnership with the U.S. Secret Service - National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC), and the Valencia College School of Public Safety, the Lee County School District, and the Florida State College at Jacksonville delivered training to law enforcement officers, school administrators, teachers, guidance counselors, and mental health providers in Orlando, Fort Myers, and Jacksonville. During each half-day session, highly specialized NTAC analysts and trainers presented scenarios, case studies, and research findings related to concerning behaviors that escalate toward violence. In addition, the training focused on the development of multidisciplinary threat assessment plans and operational models to identify, mitigate, and respond to concerning behaviors and threats. Each participant received materials to assist their local teams in developing or enhancing their school safety plans. In total, 450 participants representing more than 80 different agencies and organizations within the MDFL attended this training series.
