USAO-MDFL Community Outreach Specialist Khalilah Escalera and Assistant U.S. Attorney Conor Flynn participated in the Biennial Safety Education Fair at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind in St. Augustine. The FSDB is a fully accredited, tuition-free, public school for eligible Pre-K-12 students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired, or deafblind. This year’s event featured more than 15 partners to raise awareness about public safety issues and provide personal safety information to students and staff. As part of the fair, students learned about digital/online safety, drug awareness, and gun violence. To demonstrate their commitment to public safety, students took the Pledge Against Gun Violence presented by the USAO team. The Pledge is part of a national program that honors the role young people, through their own decisions, can play in reducing gun violence. Various professionals and agencies provided students with information about their careers. More than 400 students, teachers, school officials, and public safety professionals participated in this year’s event.
