Courageous Conversations
The U.S. Attorney’s Office, in partnership with the University of Central Florida (UCF), hosted Courageous Conversations: Racism & Reality – The Changing American Landscape. Facilitators Dr. Roy Kaplan and Dr. Donna Elam guided university faculty and students, public safety officials, and local community members through an interactive discussion addressing current issues on race and the prevailing social and political climate in the nation as it affects people of color. Focus areas for the conversation included cultural conflicts, wealth and social disparities, educational achievement gaps, and the impact these issues have upon the criminal justice system. The event culminated in smaller group discussions, where participants committed themselves to pursing ongoing projects to promote greater diversity, understanding, and mutual respect among their peers and within their communities.
Courageous Conversations is a collaborative speaker series that examines current events and policies in our nation that directly impact our community.
