Fair Housing Month 2016
This month, the U.S. Attorney's Office joins the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), local communities, fair housing advocates, and fair housing organizations across the country to commemorate Fair Housing Month.
On April 6, 2016, the Office participated in the Southwest Florida Annual Fair Housing Summit hosted by the Housing Authority of the City of Fort Myers, along with the Lee County Department of Human Services, the City of Fort Myers and the City of Cape Coral. The summit featured information on the Fair Housing Act, reasonable accommodations and modifications in rules and policies, emotional support and service animals, Section 504, special parking requests, Fair Housing Rights of persons with disabilities, a discussion of differences between laws and respective accessibility standards, and more.
On April 8, 2016, the Office participated in the 13th Annual Tampa Bay Fair Housing Consortium's Fair Housing Month Symposium. Attendees at this training included housing providers, real estate agents, property managers, attorneys, government officials, apartment personnel, homeowners, and members of the general public.
