FBI Civil Rights Conference
USAO-MDFL Civil Rights Working Group members collaborated with federal, state, and local partners to deliver a one-day civil rights conference to more than 60 law enforcement officials and community stakeholders in Jacksonville. Presenters included senior officials and law enforcement executives from across the United States, including the FBI, the U.S. Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division and Community Relations Service, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Topics covered included color of law violations, civil rights and hate crimes investigations, and community relations. In addition, attendees were exposed to national best practices by experienced practitioners on ways to strengthen relationships between law enforcement agencies and communities. An afternoon workshop focused on specific ways to promote mutual accountability and trust and legitimacy while implementing critical public safety strategies.
