Florida Educators Trained on Hate Crimes
U.S. Attorney A. Lee Bentley, III invited Florida educators to participate in a Train-the-Trainer workshop on the revised interactive training tool – About Face: Turning Away From Hate. In partnership with the Florida Regional Community Policing Institute at St. Petersburg College, 34 middle, high school, college, and university educators from across Central Florida engaged in a day-long curriculum designed to assist them in educating students about the anatomy of hate crimes and how bias and prejudicial attitudes, left unchecked, can lead to more serious criminal activity. Participants were provided with a plethora of resources on federal and state hate crime laws, diversity, conflict resolution, and ways to discuss sensitive topics.
