Press Release
In January 2026, the USAO-MDFL collaborated with our community and law enforcement partners to commemorate Human Trafficking Prevention Month. This year, our community outreach team participated in several events, including the Red Sand Project to raise awareness and strengthen partnerships. During each Red Sand event, participants filled sidewalk cracks with red sand and engaged in discussions on ways in which citizens may increase their vigilance to combat personal exploitation. Community Outreach Specialist Khalilah Escalera participated in Red Sand events in Brevard County – hosted by the Space Coast Human Trafficking Task Force and the City of Palm Bay, and in Hillsborough County – hosted by the non-profit organization One More Child and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Each event provided particpants with information on how to protect victims and ways to identify and report suspected cases of human trafficking.
