Attorney General Barr visited Sun City Center for “Keeping Seniors Safe,” a Summit on Elder Justice. The event, co-hosted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, outlined the Department’s vision for protecting older Americans from financial harm. Special attention was focused on the threat posed by foreign-based fraud schemes that victimize seniors in large numbers.
During the Summit, AG Barr announced the results of the nationwide Elder Fraud Sweep. The Middle District of Florida demonstrated exceptional devotion to the cause with the filing of 11 cases and, by continuing to conduct outreach to seniors in our community.
The launch of a National Elder Fraud Hotline, which will provide services to seniors who may be victims of financial fraud, was also announced during the event. The Hotline will be staffed by experienced case managers who can provide personalized support to callers. Case managers will assist callers with reporting the suspected fraud to relevant agencies and by providing resources and referrals to other appropriate services as needed. The Hotline’s toll free number is 833-FRAUD-11 (833-372-8311).
